Thank you for visiting the blog of Crowned Prince and Princess Charm Pageants, LLC and Distinct Impressions Pageant and Image Consulting. This week, my purpose is two-fold–focusing on pageants as well as coaches and of course the ever perennial subject of life.

Pageant  Cancelled in the South Carolina? South Carolina school receives backlash from numerous parents over a flyer that was sent home about a pageant .

I recently read an article about a fundraiser pageant was forced to be cancelled because parents were outraged by the fact they received a flyer about the event being open to all students at an Indian Island, South Carolina elementary school. In addition, the flyer mentioned the categories of competition as well as a listing of the physical attribute awards.

Pageants are not all horrible and that they do teach children invaluable skills that will assist children throughout life.

I find this cancellation of the event disturbing for several reasons. It was a fundraiser pageant for one. I also find extremely perplexing, that it is in the state of South Carolina. Do these parents realize how many pageants are in the South? Traditionally, the South has been a Mecca of beauty and sweet Southern charm.

Apparently, some children came home upset and felt that they were not good enough or beautiful enough to compete in this or any pageant. To me, this is more about self-esteem and instilling confidence in your children.

I was always told that I could do anything as long as I put my mind to it and worked hard. Do parents still instill those same skill sets in their children?

Does this mean if the school has a soccer team or basketball team that it must be quashed because not everyone can participate because they feel they are not good enough?

Furthermore, the piece goes onto say that they are not a community of Honey Boo Boo’s or Toddlers N’ Tiaras. The Director of the cancelled pageant indicated that it was a good experience for her daughter that had been competing for 20 years.

Do these children play any type of team sport? Soccer, volleyball, basketball and even archery are competitive. Showing cattle, horses are all competitive as well. Life is a competition. Presentation skills are an asset and anyone that has them will go far in life.

If you think your child will be slighted or less prepared than another child–hire a pageant coach. I started Distinct Impressions Pageant and Image Consulting in 2004 as I felt there was a need and I enjoy working with and helping people reach their fullest potential.

Our kids go to coaches for soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and yes even coaches for life.

If your child, grandchild, niece or nephew approaches you and says he or she wants to compete in pageants and you as a parent do not know where to start there are experts in this area to assist you. I thank you for visiting my blog and I hope to hear from you again soon.
